What is Baptism?

Baptism symbolises and celebrates the new life we receive through faith in Jesus Christ – the fresh start we enjoy as we confess our sins and invite God into our lives through His Holy Spirit. It's about being freed from the power of sin and evil as we discover the wonder of God's presence within us. It's testifying to the fact God has demonstrated amazing love and grace to each one of us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ – and what this achieves for anyone who believes. It's an act of obedience to Jesus as He calls His disciples to be baptised.

Here are some Bible references that point to what Jesus Christ has done for us and why we get baptised:

'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. ' John 3:16-17

'Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’' Matthew 28:18-20
